For the record

Ray clarifys the "myth" of "Crawdaddy Simone"

In 1965 I replaced Steve Howe in the legendary "Syndicats". Steve had left to join Keith West's "Tomorrow".Later that year I recorded the B-side of their single "On The Horizon", on which Steve had played guitar.

The B-side was "Crawdaddy Simone" written by myself and Jeff Williams the bands keyboard player. The track has since become a freakbeat classic due to the wild guitar solo. I left the Syndicats to join Dutch rockers Tee Set and my place in the band was taken by one-time Yes guitarist Peter Banks.

I note that in some interviews Peter has claimed to be the guitarist on "Crawdaddy Simone". This is very strange, as he wasn't even in the band in 1965. He didn't play that solo, it was me!!

I would also like to mention the omission of a playing credit for my involvement in the seventies recordings "Cherkazoo and Other Stories" released on RPM Records in 1992. I guess this is due to poor research.

Cherkazoo

If you listen to the album prior to the beginning of the first track there is studio chat. This is in fact myself, Roger Glover and John Perry of Grapefruit fame. John was also left off the credit list.

For the record, the tracks I played on were:

Monster In Paradise
Hogwash
Trying To Get To You
Ain't That Lovin' You baby
Music In My head
The Bull Of Birantis
